Innovation Isn’t Just in London, And Neither Are We
From Leeds to the wider UK, Foundervine is backing overlooked founders and proving innovation doesn’t just happen in London.

For too long, the UK startup narrative has been a one-city story. But in reality, another form of underrepresentation exists across the country: founders in the regions often face limited access to the networks, support, and funding opportunities that are more readily available in established startup hubs.

At Foundervine, we recognise that talent is distributed nationwide, even if access to infrastructure and opportunity has not always kept pace.

In December, our collaboration with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through our Pitch Room activity in Leeds marked an important step in strengthening founder support beyond London.

The winners were George Fairhall of wac, a platform supporting young people through access to creative and technical opportunities; Amanda MacCannell of Pathways Open, focused on improving accessibility and pathways into employment; and Abbie Bartlett of Why Social Media, helping purpose-led brands build a meaningful digital presence.

Coming from a diverse range of backgrounds and sectors, their work highlights the breadth of innovation already taking place across the region. Together, they demonstrate the strength and potential of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

By engaging directly with local entrepreneurs and ecosystem partners, we’re working to build more connected pathways for founders in the North to access the networks and resources needed to scale.

This activity sets the scene for Foundervine’s growing regional focus in 2026. Our ambition is to ensure that founders across the UK, whether in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff or Edinburgh, are able to tap into the same community, support and opportunities to grow their ventures.

Innovation happens everywhere. Our role is to ensure opportunity does too.
